Monash-Waseda Joint Supervision Program was just Launched

Unit for Energy and Nanomaterials played a key role to conclude the agreement for Joint Supervision with Monash University Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering, which took effect on July 13.
For years, Monash and Waseda have been collaborated such as mutually dispatching doctoral students to let them participate in workshops, laboratory work or site-visit to business sectors.

The Joint Supervision Program is intended for doctoral students to take supervison from two institutions. This program is a part of Top Global University Project engagements to boost a global standard education and characterized as a collaborative educational framework with overseas universities. In the program, doctoral students have two supervisors one from Monash and one form Waseda and supervision is conducted under mutual cooperation and consultation between two supervisors. Students are supposed to stay at the host university for a certain period to take face to face research guidance from a host university supervisor.
Since the program is designed with an eye on Joint Degree Program, during students’ stay at the host university they are required to take a course additional to research guidance, and at the time of program completion, the certificate will be granted under the name of both university presidents.
We have already started to dispatch a first student to Monash and a joint paper publication is expected, the program made a very good start.
