Abstract

Seminar 1 Chemistry of Low-Dimensional Nanomaterials in Optoelectronics: I Carbon Nanotubes

Seminar 2 “Chemistry of Low-Dimensional Nanomaterials in Optoelectronics: II Fullerene and Biomaterials”

Our research is centred on the utilisation of nanocarbon allotropes in a range of energy, transistor and optoelectronic devices. We have addressed fundamental challenges inherent in nascent thin-film optoelectronics, specifically silicon, organic, and perovskite solar cells, through the application of these nanocarbon materials. In particular, the efficiency, durability, and flexibility of these devices have been markedly enhanced by incorporating carbon allotropes such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, and fullerenes. Their abundant availability and robust characteristics render them ideal substitutes for traditional materials, which are both limited and rigid. In my presentation, I shall discuss the advancements and overall scope of my research, as well as the future direction of my team, which is poised to make significant contributions to the field of materials science.

Biography

IL JEON read Chemistry for Bachelors and Masters degrees at Oxford University, UK. Upon graduation in 2008, he worked as the youngest senior researcher at LG Display Co. Ltd., South Korea for 5 years. In 2016, he received a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry with honours from the University of Tokyo, Japan. After working as a JSPS post-doctoral fellow, he worked as an Assistant Professor and a Lecturer at the same university. He later joined Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) as an Associate Professor in the Department of Nano Engineering and SKKU Advanced Institute of NanoTechnology (SAINT). Currently, he serves as the Vice Provost for International Affairs at SKKU, while holding an Early-Tenured Professorship. His team are working on nanomaterials, namely, nanocarbon and biomaterials for various devices ranging from energy (solar cells & batteries) to sensor applications. Additionally, he is the founder and CEO of JLabNT Co. Ltd. and has, thus far, published more than 100 lead-authored SCI papers, mostly as the lead-author, and registered more than 5 international & 20 domestic patents.
