ASSOC. PROF. DR. SYAFIQAH SAIDIN, MIMMM
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syafiqah is an Associate Professor at Dept. of Biomedical Engineering & Health Sciences, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and holding an admin Institute Director research position at Institute of Human Centered Engineering (iHumEn), UTM. She obtained her Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering at UTM in 2009 and successfully been awarded Doctorate Degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2013 at UTM with 1-year research trainee attachment at Laval University, Canada. She is the member of several professional bodies including Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3), IEEE Malaysia section, and IEEE-EMBS Medicine & Biology Society. Her research interests are localised on biomaterials, tissue engineering and drug delivery (membrane, nanofibres, thin film, implant coating, scaffold, and hydrogel) with the specification on bioactive materials and antibacterial materials. The development and fabrication of biomaterials are prominently designed for bone, cardiovascular and skin applications. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syafiqah has been appointed as the Visiting Professor at Universitas Andalas, Indonesia. She also has been invited as Keynote Speaker at two international research conferences, which hosted at Canada and Indonesia as well as few invitations as Invited Speaker. She has published more than 50 journal articles in WoS/Scopus indexed journals and acquired 15 grants as the project leader with the amount of RM1,689,115. Her invention on Factor 7 biodegradable cardiac patch has won Gold medal in INATEX 2023 and silver medal in MTE 2024 while another project on chlorhexidine antibacterial coating has secured silver medal in PECIPTA 2019 and bronze medal in INATEX 2018. Intensely she has a professional collaboration and research network with National Heart Institute (IJN) Sdn. Bhd., Kuala Lumpur and EPI Academy Sdn. Bhd.
